Heikki Parkkonen (b. 1986) is a light artist and sculptor based in Luumäki, Finland. He works with laser-cut birch plywood, layered structures, LEDs, electronics and real-time visuals. In his work the wood hides the technology: the viewer sees wood and metal, and the programmed light moves between the layers.
Since 2013 Parkkonen has designed and built dozens of stages and decorations for events and festivals across Finland. Since 2016 he has made sculpture and interactive light installations under the name Hexagon Intergalactic. He has built the Spacetime stage at Kosmos Festival in Ristiina since 2022, and since 2023 the stage has been the work of the art collective Kiva, of which he is a founding member.
In 2026 his work was shown in the solo exhibition Aether Dreams (Galleria Loiva, Kouvola), in Purkutaide's ten-year exhibition This Is What I Want to Say (Helsinki), in Kiva's exhibition ITU (Galleria Myötä, Helsinki), at the City of Light festival in Jyväskylä, and at the Välke light festival in Kuopio, where his work Polaris was shown in Alava Church. In 2025 he completed a permanent plywood sculpture for Helsinki XR Center (Metropolia University of Applied Sciences). His work is included in the Light Art Database of FLASH, the Finnish Light Art Society.
Parkkonen's background is in programming and user-interface design, and he builds his own tools. His light software Filament has driven the LEDs in his 2026 installations. His workshop is in an old barn in Luumäki.
